ASCCA Air flow visualization: managing smoke studies

November 24

One of the fundamental pillars of the Contamination Control Strategy (CCS) required by the new Annex is the proper execution and interpretation of Air Flow Visualization (AFV). Through an approach that integrates the scientific rigor of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with practical evidence from field testing, this workshop aims to analyze how smoke studies are not merely a formal requirement but a strategic tool for design, qualification, and operational training.

Throughout the day, practical guidance will be provided on the selection of tracers and instrumentation, advanced data acquisition techniques, and the management of the most common issues encountered during inspections, fostering discussion among industry experts and the analysis of real-world case studies.

AM will present a talk titled: “Selection of a smoke generator (safety, residues, purity), critical positioning, and types of flows (density and temperature)”
